Known as the friendly airline, Southwest tries to extend that friendliness into their app. You can manage your bookings and travel, as well as book more flights from their app.
When booking flights, Southwest allows you to view fares in points which is useful for their Rapid Rewards members. You can sort flight results by departure time, price, nonstop or duration depending on your travel needs. When you’ve selected your flight, you are then prompted to select between the different classes: Wanna Get Away, Anytime and Business Select. On your trip summary page, you will see all the details of your trip, including if your flight has Wifi, details on layovers and travel time. You are also able to see the prices in points and dollars. You can log in to purchase or you can continue as a guest. The app also allows you to change or cancel your reservations.
An added benefit to the Southwest app is that you are able to book or cancel car reservations. You can choose which car company and also include any promo code or member ID or numbers. You can also manage your hotel reservations by searching your confirmation number of credit card number.
If you are a Rapid Rewards member, you can log into your account to view your points or redeem your points. You can also sign up for Rapids Rewards in the Southwest app. Your account will store all of your information about your upcoming trips, Rapid Rewards status, and reservations.
A useful tool for Southwest customer is the ability add on early bird check-in to your flights so you can secure your perfect spot. EarlyBird check-in provides you with automatic check in and improved boarding position.
You can check in with your Southwest app and access your boarding pass or save it to your Apple wallet. One frustration with the app is that it will not update if there are changes to your flight, such as gate changes or flight delays or cancellations. You can track flight statuses from the app to see up to date schedules and arrival or departure times. The app also provides detailed information on the airports they flight to. You can track TSA wait times, access travel tips, ticket counter hours and available amenities.
The Southwest app will save anything you have previously entered such as past rental car reservations or hotel reservations and past searched flights or tracked flights. While it can be useful, the Southwest app acts more as a mobile website than anything else. You can download your mobile boarding pass but many users complain the feature does not work correctly and that the app will not always load all passenger information. If you fly Southwest on a regular basis and love their early bird check-in feature, then Southwest will be a useful app for you to keep in your back pocket.
